Bonus email this week because Tax Time is everyone's favorite time [sarcasm intended]…and may be hurting your sleep routine.
Taxes. Spring schedules. Work deadlines. Your brain is running a dozen open tabs at midnight and none of them are closing.
You don’t need more sleep advice. You need a shutdown sequence that actually works.
Move 1: Body — Do 5 minutes of “legs up the wall” before bed.
Lie on your back.
Put your legs straight up against a wall.
Stay there for 5 minutes.
This activates your parasympathetic nervous system — the same gear shift that takes your body from “fight mode” to “repair mode.” It’s like manually shifting from 5th gear to neutral.
Move 2: Fuel — 200mg of magnesium glycinate, 30 minutes before bed.
Most men over 40 are deficient in magnesium. It’s the single most impactful sleep supplement with real evidence behind it. Glycinate specifically — not oxide, which is basically a laxative with a dream catcher label.
Move 3: Mind — Write down 3 things that are on your mind. Then close the notebook.
Your brain treats unfinished thoughts like open apps draining your battery. Writing them down tells your brain “this is saved, you can stop running it.” Three lines. Close the book. That’s the shutdown.
The takeaway: Sleep isn’t something you fall into. It’s something you set up. Build the runway and the landing takes care of itself.
Know a dad who hasn’t slept well since tax season started? Forward this. Five minutes could change his night.
Rootin’ for ya,
