Most dads run their body like a truck with a broken odometer. They have no idea how far they've come, so they assume it's nowhere.

Quick one: will you take the photo today? Yes or no.

Want the one number that beats the scale? Here's how waist-to-height works.

The Agentic Engineering Playbook top engineers are using

Most engineers are stuck babysitting AI one prompt at a time. A handful have figured out how to build agents that plan, execute, and self-correct on their own.

Sign up for The Code newsletter and get access to The Complete Playbook for Agentic Engineering. Claude Code, subagents, MCP, all of it.

The scorecard. Write these down today:

  1. Waist. Tape measure at your belly button, relaxed, first thing in the morning.

  2. One lift. Your best clean set of 5 on any lift, or your max push-ups.

  3. Steps. Your daily average from the last 7 days. Your phone already knows.

  4. Photo. Front and side. Same spot, same light. You don't have to show anyone.

Your number: divide your waist by your height, both in inches. Under 0.5 is the target zone. A 36-inch waist on a 70-inch guy is 0.51. Close.

Then: set a phone reminder for 90 days from today. Same four numbers, same spot, same light.

The takeaway: You can't see progress you didn't measure. Write it down now, while it feels silly.

Best,

Jason
